Kunlé Adeyemi’s recent work, the 'Makoko Floating School', is an innovative, prototype floating structure located on the lagoon heart of Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos. This acclaimed project is part of an extensive research project - 'African Water Cities' - being developed by NLÉ, an architecture, design, and urbanism practice founded by Adeyemi in 2010 with a focus on developing cities and communities.
His approach to architecture and water goes far beyond building buoyant structures. Adeyemi is interested in the human relationship with water and how this can be integrated into architecture. In this event he discusses his practice, approach and explores how we can think differently about building with and on water.
This event is part of the exhibition 'Creation from Catastrophe – How Architecture Rebuilds Communities'.
